Presence Detection
PIR sensors allow you to sense motion, almost always used to detect whether a human has moved in or out of the sensors range. They are small, inexpensive, low-power, easy to use and don’t wear out. PIR refers to “Passive Infrared”, “Pyroelectric”, or “IR motion” sensors.
These sensors HC-SR501 are great for DIY home automation projects. I use these primarily for automatically turning on and off LED light strips when motion is detected. These can be powered with the low voltage typically available It can automatically and quickly open various types of incandescent, fluorescent lamps.
